Home users have just as much personal data as business users, sometimes more and it’s just as important to make sure you don’t lose any of your personal data.
With this in mind, here are some of the best Cloud services available for home users.
If you’re familiar with Gmail, using Google Drive will be easy. You can have access to everything from every device you own. Despite it’s low cost of £4.00 per month for 100GB, it’s not worth it. Compared to all other cloud storage services, Google Drive is one of the slowest. Google Drive is for people who have a preference for Google Applications. You can get 5GB for free.
Cost: £4.99 a month per 100GB
You can add on more computers for £1.75 per month each. They have really good customer service, much better than Google and they are easy to talk to if you have any problems. Mozy is one of the fastest online storage solutions that we have used, so if speed is important to you, Mozy is the way to go.
2GB Totally Free Online Backup! Compliments of Mozy
Cost: £4.99 a month for 50GB
Microsoft SkyDrive is the cheapest cloud storage solution that we have found. You get 7GB of Free Storage and the speed is very good, although not as fast as Mozy. Also, existing SkyDrive users have an opportunity to upgrade to 25GB of free storage.
Cost: £2.00 a month for 50GB
Dropbox is the most popular cloud storage solution for home users. It has really good integration with Apple & Samsung phones & tablets. On the down side they have had security issues in the past and their speeds seemed to have dropped in recent months.
Cost: £9.99 a month for 50GB
Updated: 3rd December 2017 – Ubuntu One no longer exists.
Ubuntu One I’m a big fan of Ubuntu One, it just works on everything with no hassle and it is open source. You get 5GB for free and you can install it on as many devices as you like. It works on everything, from Windows, Mac, Android & Linux seamlessly. It’s not the cheapest solution around, but it is one of the fastest and most secure. Cost: £2.99 a month for 20GB
There are lot more differences between these services than are listed here. For someone who hasn’t used a cloud storage service before I would recommend Microsoft SkyDrive and for more advanced users, Ubuntu One. If you would like any further any information you can call me on 07742205215.
